How the Estimate Works

The model applies a material-specific installed-cost range to 110% of measured floor area, then adds optional removal and subfloor work. A transparent market multiplier adjusts labor-sensitive costs. The output is deliberately a range because layout, access, floor preparation, product grade, and installer availability materially affect bids.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the flooring estimate include?

The base range combines material and installation for the selected flooring, adds a 10% cutting and waste allowance, and optionally includes removal and subfloor repair. It does not include structural work, stairs, unusual transitions, or moving furniture.

Why does flooring need a waste allowance?

Installers normally order more than the exact floor area because cuts, pattern matching, room shape, damaged pieces, and future repairs consume extra material. The calculator uses 10% as a planning allowance.

Which flooring is usually least expensive?

Carpet, laminate, and some vinyl products usually start below hardwood and tile, but installation method, subfloor condition, product grade, and local labor can reverse that order.

Is this a contractor quote?

No. It is a national planning range. Measure the space carefully and compare at least 2 local, itemized bids before purchasing material or approving work.
